Eight Founders. One Vision.
Iota Gamma was founded at the University of Oklahoma on October 22, 2004, by eight Native men who saw a need that was not being fully met: Indigenous men needed a stronger network of support, accountability, cultural connection, and Brotherhood as they pursued higher education.
Their vision was bigger than creating another Greek-letter organization. They sought to build a Brotherhood where Native men could challenge one another academically, strengthen their connection to culture and community, develop as leaders, and create a lasting support system for the men who would come after them.
What began with eight Founders at the University of Oklahoma became the foundation of a growing Brotherhood rooted in purpose, responsibility, and service. Their vision continues to shape Iota Gamma today and remains the standard each generation of Brothers is called to carry forward.
A Brotherhood Created to Help Indigenous Men Succeed.
Indigenous men often enter higher education carrying responsibilities that extend far beyond the classroom. Earning a degree is not only a personal accomplishment; it can create greater opportunities to serve families, strengthen Tribal communities, mentor younger generations, and bring knowledge and leadership back to the places that shaped us.
Iota Gamma was created to ensure that Native men do not have to navigate that journey alone. The fraternity provides a network of Brothers who understand the challenges of higher education and who are committed to helping one another persist, complete their degrees, and succeed. That support may take the form of academic accountability, encouragement during difficult semesters, cultural connection, leadership development, or simply having other Native men who understand the weight of the journey.
Through Brotherhood, Iota Gamma seeks to develop men who are prepared not only to succeed for themselves, but to use their education, experiences, and leadership to create opportunities for others. Each Brother has a responsibility to support the men beside him and to help build a stronger path for the Native men who will follow.
When one Brother succeeds, that success has the potential to reach far beyond one individual. It strengthens families, communities, and the generations that come next.
We Set The Standard
For Iota Gamma, setting the standard means more than meeting expectations. It means holding ourselves and one another accountable to the kind of men we are called to become: educated, disciplined, culturally grounded, community-minded, and prepared to lead.
We challenge every Brother to pursue academic excellence, complete his degree, remain connected to culture and community, care for his spiritual and physical well-being, and use his education and experiences in service to others. Our actions should reflect positively on our families, Tribal Nations, campuses, communities, and the Brotherhood we represent.
The standard is not something we simply talk about. It is something we demonstrate through our choices, our character, and the way we show up for one another.
Together, we set the standard. Every Brother has a responsibility to carry it forward.
